SNSDC22 - You're My Cup of Cocoa

This week at the Sweet 'n Sassy Digi Challenge blog, we have a color challenge to use red, yellow and purple.  Like many color challenges, for some it's easy because the colors are some they reach for time & time again.  For others, it's a true challenge because the colors are not ones they would pick on a regular basis.  I am definitely in the latter category.  However, challenges really make me stretch and try things I would not normally do, so...here's my attempt at a card with red, yellow and purple.

I'm noticing that some of my yellows are washing out in the picture.  The handle & rim of the cup are yellow and so are the polka dots on the sentiment matting.  The paper with the sentiment is a cream that has a yellowish tint to it.   Rhubarb was colored with copics and is popped up for a little dimension.  I used primsacolor pencils on Rubarb's cup.

Supplies:
Cardstock - Recollections (cream), Bazzill (?) (embossed purple)
Patterned Paper - Jillibean Soup (Watermelon Gazpacho Soup)
Stamps:  Sweet 'n Sassy (Rhubarb's Cuppa Joe, Hot Cocoa Sentiments)
Embellishments: Twine (JoAnn's), Brads (Oriental Trading), Crystal Effects, Buttons from my stash, Copics Markers, Prismacolor Pencils, Gamsol

I'm entering this card in the following challenges:
SCS Sketch SC349
Paper Sundaes #88 - Anything Goes
Simon Says Stamp - Anything Goes
Stamptacular Sunday #131 - Have a Latte Day
Tuesday Throwdown #68 - Thinking of You
Paper & Such - Recipe Challenge (I used designer paper, twine, 2 buttons & 3 brads)

Thanks for stopping by and I hope you'll play along with us this week.

SIWS16 - Psalm 66:1

Psalm 66:1, "Make a joyful noise unto God, all ye lands;" is this week's focus verse (and free digi) in the Say it With Scripture Challenge at the Sweet 'n Sassy Connection.  If we go on to read verse two, it says, "Sing forth the honour of his name: make his praise glorious."  The whole purpose of our singing is to bring honor and praise to our wonderful Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  Whether you are a proficient singer or not isn't what matters.  What matters is are you singing with joy to bring honor to the Lord?  As one of our forefathers stated, "I care not if you can sing but do you have a song?"

This week's card took me out of my comfort zone.  I attempted a CAS (clean & simple) card.  I followed this week's CPS sketch #237.  The "white space" called to me and I couldn't resist adding the flourish in the upper corner.  This card will fit in a regular business size envelope.

(Remember, you can enlarge the photo by clicking on it)

Supplies:
Cardstock:  Georgia Pacific (white), Recollections (black), Bazzill (red embossed)
Stamp:  Sweet 'n Sassy (Sing Unto the Lord)
Embellishments:  Brads (Hot off the Press Music Note), Ribbon (Offray), Pearl flourish (Recollections)

Let Your Light Shine - SIWS15

This week's focus verse in the Say It With Scripture Challenge at the Sweet 'n Sassy Connection is Matthew 5:16, "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven."  What a great reminder that the purpose of letting our light shine is so that others may see our good works.  NOT so that we'll receive acclaim but so that the Lord will be glorified.  Our world tells us that we want our actions and accomplishments to be seen so that we will gain notoriety.  This verse puts our good works in perspective by reminding us that our purpose is to bring glory to our Heavenly Father.  Sometimes, we all need that little prompt that it's not "all about us."

My card this week has a quilted background made from 3/4" squares. All the edges were inked before being "quilted."  I colored Cocoa and his candle with Prismacolor and blended with gamsol.  It doesn't show up in the picture but I used a glitter pen to give the candle flame a little sparkle.

Supplies:
Cardstock - SU (kraft),  Recollections (cream), Georgia pacific (white)
Patterned paper - Reminisce (In Bloom)
Ink - Colorbox fluid chalk (chestnut roan)
Embellishments/Tools - DMC floss, Buttons from my stash, Offray ribbon, Spellbinders Nestabilities (petite ovals, petite scalloped ovals), Prismacolor Pencils, gamsol, Sakura clear star gelly roll pen

Cookie's Gift - SNSDC20

The Sweet 'n Sassy Digi Challenge blog has a photo inspiration challenge for us this week.

Psalm 118:24 - SIWS14

This week's focus verse in the Say It With Scripture Challenge over at The Sweet 'n Sassy Connection is near and dear to my heart. Psalm 118:24, "This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it."  I remember my dad quoting this on Sunday mornings as he was getting ready for church. I never hear or read this verse without thinking of him.  It's a memory that brings encouragement on days that are more challenging {we WILL rejoice and be glad}. It also is helpful on days that are going well because it's a reminder that the Lord made this day.  Either way, it's a great reminder of both Dad and the Lord's goodness.

I used a pearl flourish as a stem for the flower.

The sentiment panel is made from a petite scalloped oval layered on a Fancy Tags 3 tag that I cut in half and the sentiment itself is on a Labels Four Small.
The card design was inspired by a sketch by Valerie Salmon of Got Sketch? that I found on Patter Cross' board on Pinterest.  I changed up several elements but it was my starting place.

Supplies:
Card base:  SU
Cardstock:  Recollection
Patterned Paper:  Basic Grey (Out of Print)
Stamp:  Sweet 'n Sassy (Rejoice in the Lord)
Embellishments/Tools: Flower (Prima), Flourish (Recollections), Pearls (Oriental Trading), Button (from my stash), Nestabilities (Petite Scalloped Ovals, Labels 4 Small, Fancy Tags 3, Decorative Photo Corners), Stickles (gold), Gold Glitter Pen (Recollections)

SIWS13 - God Loves Us

Our focus verse this week in the Say it with Scripture Challenge at the Sweet 'n Sassy Connection is 1 John 4:19, "We love him, because he first loved us."  I really like the reminder in this verse that God drew us to Himself because of His love for us.  Our proper response to His love is not only to love Him in return, but also to serve Him.  But the mind-boggling fact is, that even if we don't love Him as we should, He still loves us anyway!!  Wow! If we started our day meditating on that for awhile, we'd be praising the Lord all day long.

For my card this week, I went with soft, muted colors.  I also went with a technique that is a little out of the norm for me, using gamsol with my Prismacolor pencils.  I also sponged my circle and fancy tag with distress ink before removing them from the dies.  I also backed the fancy tag with patterned paper for a little extra color.  I finished my card off with a few pearls and a little ribbon.  I used this week's The Sweet Stop sketch (SSS124) for the inspiration for my card design.

Supplies:
Cardstock:  Recollections, Georgia Pacific
Patterned Paper:  Reminisce (In Bloom)
Stamps:  Sweet 'n Sassy Stamps (Hummingbird, God Is Love)
Ink:  Ranger Distress Ink (antique linen)
Embellishments/Tools:  Pearls (Kaisercraft), Ribbon (Offray), Prismacolor pencils, gamsol, Nestabilities (circles large & small, fancy tags 3)

Sunny Squirrel's Get Well Wish

I made a card just for fun last night.  I really like this cute little squirrel named Sunny. I thought she'd be a good "cheer you up" image for a get well card.

I colored her with my Prismacolor pencils and used gamsol for blending.  The middle of her sunflower has black diamond stickles {which of course don't show up in the picture.  :(  }

Supplies:
Cardstock - Recollection, Georgia Pacific
Patterned Paper - Basic Grey (Origin)
Stamps - Sweet 'n Sassy Stamps (Sunny Squirrel, Get Well Wishes)
Embellishments/Tools - Brad (Making Memories), Punch (SU ticket punch), Prisamcolor pencils, gamsol, Stickles (black diamond)

Thankful for You - SNSDC18

When I first saw what this week's challenge at The Sweet 'n Sassy Digi Challenge blog was going to be, I'll confess, my first thought was that it was going to be really hard.  However, I was very happy to find out I was completely wrong!  This week, we were challenged to ONLY use white papers.  Other elements could be any color we wanted but all of our papers were to be white.  I discovered I could make a card pretty quickly when I didn't have so many choices of which papers to choose.

I have some cardstock by DCWV what was already embossed.  I added it to my card base. {Lining up white cardstock on white cardstock so that it has even borders was probably the hardest part of the whole card -- and yes, I did have my reading glasses on.  LOL}  Then a bit of ribbon, die-cutting the sentiment & its mat with my nesties, a couple flowers and pearls and the card was done!  I think I should make white cards more often!!  I used this week's Sweet Stop Sketch (SSS123) for my card design.  I traded out the main square for my eyelet circle.

Supplies:
Cardstock - Georgia Pacific, DCWV (Embossed Floral)
Stamp - Sweet 'n Sassy (Many Thanks digital stamp set)
Embellishments/Tools - Flowers (Prima), Pearls (Recollections), Ribbon (Misc. from stash), Spellbinders Nestabilities (Circle Large, Eyelet Circle)

I'm entering this card in the following challenges:
Meljen's Designs Challenge #74 - Solid cardstock only, no patterned paper
Simon Says Stamp - Anything Goes
